BHP buyback 15th Nov 2010 Reactivation of buyback. The average price was in pounds and I can't convert for the period to AUD. BUT ...the effect is that the shares initially went up and are now lower.
CSL has moved sideways for several years during the buyback. I'm not sure if the monthly low at 26.12 in Sep 2011 can be counted a W5 down, but I actually think it was W3 of 5 down.... irrelevant to the discussion of buyback vs other options.
There is no question in my mind that buyback schemes SKEW the market and are in the interest of a "few".
Consolidation takes the speculation away and a share dividend equal to the buyback would likely decrease the flow of shares to the market and put upward pressure on the price commensurate with returns gained rather than with speculation.
