An option is the right but not the obligation to buy a share. So there are now potentially (whatever amount) of new shares issued. It's probably not great if you own because a) your shares are now diluted it whatever amount. b) people who want to take a position in the stock can buy options instead which means it will take longer for the sp to make a move up.
IF the options don't get exercised they expire useless at the option expiry date.
