I have many years experience in IT systems and database transactions etc, and even though your transaction may take just .002 0f 1 second there could be some 80Million transactions queued up, especially for a combination like BHP dividend and CBA which could take roughly 44 hours to clear. Of course there are many other companies paying dividends too plus all the regular transaction that happen daily.
