Not sure but perhaps the CDI players are day trading on the POG action in Asia and Europe that leads into the POG for the US market that day. If geopolitical events push the POG up in trading in Asia/Europe then the NEM share price at the end of the European session and beginning of the US session will rise. Then that will force the CDI's up the next day and the Aus day traders take some profit. You will find the discrepancy in the NEM price and the CDI to be insignificant because the timing difference will eventually work itself out. I never concern myself with what the CDIs do only the NEM price. I don't day-trade the CDis.
