If they had any internal competence, they would have known that issues lay with the quality of the data inputs.
They would also be aware that to confirm the geological and structural assumptions, a significant amount of confirmatory (twinned) drilling and more robust interpretation and interrogation would be required.
This is expensive and takes time. Moreover, it just might not give you the answers you “want”.
No doubt this is where it fell over.
To suggest otherwise is burying your head in the sand.
