    shareholders are last to get anything if there is something to share. first in line is the secured creditors, then unsecured creditors and only then shareholders... if I remember right.

    so yes, there are many instances where shareholders get nothing. I don't wish it to happen to CIA's shareholders but it is very likely scenario.
