Its pretty easy to see if the CFO is worth his weight in gold by seeing the total number of shares that were on issue at the beginning of the buy back period, and the total number of shares on issue at the end of the buy back period. If the number of shares has increased (due to the issue of new shares, options etc.), then the buy back was a complete waste of time for ordinary shareholders as they have had their holdings diluted with less cash in the bank.
