There will always be profit taking on any stock. Dividend paying companies may increase before ex div date, retrace slightly after, but has little affect on overall sp ( ie CBA ) At the end of the day, the only thing that drives sp up is an excellent product and healthy financial balance sheet. Company performance reported in quarterly reports determine share price - not buybacks or dividends.
