It was not just the banking sector, many other sectors had abnormally high volumes. I would expect to see this type of volume at either EoQ or at futures rollover no at the EoM.
The trading in CBA was indeed abnormal, 40248 trades for total volume of 13.5m with 11.2m trading at the match and after the close.
