Them buying the real-estate that their stressed competitor currently leases sounds like a fantastic idea to me.

Say they buy the 4 properties that HCW wholly own that Healthscope lease. These are buildings purpose built to be hospitals. The exact type of building St John could use for themselves and dont need to build it themselves.

If they truly believe that Healthscope are really stressed financially. They then just play the waiting game, until Healthscope find it necessary to vacate the building. St John swoop in, buy all the current equipment within the hospital, re employ all the staff. Getting the staff costs nothing straight up, the equipment will be purchased cheaply, because Healthscope have no choice.

Like you say, St John don't need the profits necessarily. But this maybe an avenue that is cheaper for them to aquire 4 new hospitals, then going to Healthscope directly.

Just my thoughts.

Sorry I didn't read your previous post properly.
St John want to buy the property from HCW not the business from Healthscope.

If HCW can recycle a few properties, getting rid of Healthscope & reinvesting elsewhere that eliminates the problem all together.
Australia is always going to need more hospital beds.
