when a coy pays out dividend, it reduces its assets (cash). Share price should and likely to reflects that. Pending on whether the dividend is paid from taxed earning/untaxed earning or return of capital, the tax implication is different.
When a coy does a buy back, it reduces the number of shares, benefiting all metrics - ROE, EPS, P/B blah blah
when a coy pays out dividend, it reduces its assets (cash)....
