There is no reason the start of the buy back should move the dial on the share price
1) the information is known to the market
2) buy backs don't change the equity in the business
when we get results in a few months, this will push the share price higher (prob in anticipation also)
I wouldn't be surprised that the weakness is due to reporting cycles. The rest of the market will release financials towards the end of the month, I suspect the weakness is caused by funds being allocated to play the season. When it's all over, I wouldn't be surprised to see the share price recover
