Usually, the buy back is monitored by company representative or broker with the price range given. They normally do nothing if the price is green, however if there is pullback happening, they will act and buy back shares at closing price (usually within after hours i.e. 1610 - a bid is placed at 1600 hours) to keep the SP within the buy back price band. Buy back can also happen during normal trading hours depending on allocated capital reserve for buy back
