For anyone who is interested. Just looking at the last week of trades involving UBS. I'll try and get a larger dataset and include all brokers at some point.
It doesn't show much other than it's about 0.02% difference between their average buy and sell prices and they've generated $28m worth of volume over that week to sell about $3.8m shares.
Even if they captured the entire 0.02% (unlikely) that's only $3,5k profit for that. I suppose if it's set and forget and no human is actually doing anything it's not a bad profit for just being an intermediary.
