I know the question isn't aimed at me but CUV did just that and it hasn't gone too well for them. They announced a SBB and are a profitable cash rich business but they never really followed through on buying the shares so it sent a really bad message to the market. They happen to be strongly up today but the SP reached a 52 week low yesterday which exceeded the low from the 'liberation day' market slump.
Our market volume is dominated by the US invesment banks and algorithmic trading. Whenever the direction (net buy or net sell) changes it makes a pretty large impact. You'll see Jefferies all the way down and whilst that includes some non SBB activity you can see that $34m net shares is great but the momentum/direction is dicated to those who trade 10x the volume over the same period.
