The genius of Joyce is that he figured out that if the company doesn't spend on new planes or maintenance of the old clunkers then they could distribute free cashflow to their dumb shareholders. It's amazing that nobody else though of this cost cutting strategy, but that's why the little man gets paid the big bucks.
Qantas will solidify their reputation as one of the world's worst airlines in the near future.
