I have to correct my earlier comment re detriment to you if coy knows insolvency likely, as given your put is not exercised toll next year u become an unsecured holder regardless.
It does look like an attempt to cleanup mounting contingent liabilities to bring back cash flow certainty and look more attractive to bidder.
