No, it wasn’t.

Appen AU was ASR and TTS, as well as NLP things, like sentiment analysis, Part of speech annotation.

Audio data collection was probably the bulk of the pre-Butlerhill work, but certainly not 100%.

We also did translation, way back into at least 2007, IIRC. A number of the projects were US DARPA and IARPA funded, so there are publications out there about them. We dallied back then in various other things (e,g. a project to ID people by the say they typed). We did various speaker ID projects, too.

We acquired Butler Hill at some point (when Bill was CEO, I forget exactly - 2012?) and they were almost entirely search (for Bing) with a little bit of other linguistic consulting (there were two departments at Butler Hill that did much the same thing, which a few years later got merged into Language Resources and ended up reporting to me).

So by 2015 we had about 50% revenue from Bing Search. It was one of our big worries when listing that we had such a concentration of revenue with one client (the Australian arm had a good proportion from MS too). The margins on the two halves of the business were quite different, though, the original Appen work was much higher margin than the Search work.
