If the science didn't work or failed, beyond any scientific doubt, they would have to announce it
If they got an unexpected result and can trace it back to protocol, then they would logically repeat in order to prove it was protocol. I wouldn't expect an ann. for this unless retrospective analysis indicated an ann. was warranted. (sailing close to a conspiracy theory here)
If there was not a known protocol issue, they would repeat in order to disprove the unexpected result.
If repeat experiments were unable to disprove the unexpected result, they may provide empirical evidence of a null or counter hypothesis - which is the point of experimental design, but not great news for investors.
