I actually agree, perhaps not with the timing or your correlation to WWI's "certain success" ... but the USD will indeed implode someday.

However I suggest some deeper thought into what would happen to commodities and indeed society when this occurs.
- The USD collapsing will take most every other currency with it
- The fear and panic caused will shake the very foundation of the economy
- TRUST in currency will be destroyed
- Workers get paid in currency, not GOLD. Who will pull the gold out of the mine if they don't have faith in being paid?
- Who will deliver the diesel to the site if THEY don't have confidence in their paycheck having meaning?
- Continue back tracing the entire supply chain and you'll come to the conclusion that GOLD may increase in price, but MINERS will not be able to pull it out of the ground.

In this case, investing in physical gold is a far better investment thesis than some highly dependent wannabe miner in S.A.
