This is the exact argument I've been having with a few of my pro battery tech mates. I find it very hard for EV to become mainstream for long distance heavy vehicle transport, unless some new technology is discovered/engineered then I think Hydrogen really is the only option (if combustion engines are discontinued).

Looking at the cost comparisons I've seen Hydrogen has a cheaper running cost than combustion and it sounds like it will have capability to drive the long distances required with a full payload. Transport companies run on very thin margins so I would think once word is out that Hydrogen can do the job at a cheaper cost then adoption by transport industry should be rapid.
