I think there is a bit of marketing Mumbo jumbo going on here. and rightly so. the queensland government don't much like shale oil projects. my opinion is that GRV is correctly trying its best to focus on other products and processes involved at alpha. but I'm not so sure the boffins in the queensland government are that easily placated.

bitumen liquefaction typically involves tar or oil sands. shale oil liquefaction (and thereby retorting) typically involves canal coal - which forms the bulk of the alpha deposit.

broadly, I think you should read the announcements.

Qld Gov's job is to allow the exploitation of resources subject to rules for the benefit of the State. It would have to be the most ideologically ridiculous government that knocked back a multi-billion dollar project that displaced a 100% import, high emission product/supply-chain, with zero emission, domestic production, creating jobs and royalties etc. It ain't going to happen.
