I think this was a glimmer of competence. It was the wise thing to do. I think 8M had little chance of succeeding, they probably though the same given they took a deal that did not compensate them financially. I'm glad the company decided to do the right thing rather than let egos dictate their actions and waste shareholder money to prove a point in court. Management definitely shouldn't have put the company in this situation with the careless wording in the first announcement, but this was the best way out of it - at least in terms of financial impact to shareholders.
