ECOWAS heads of state, including Mali's direct neighbors, seem to regret the sanctions taken against Mali on Sunday, January 8, 2022 during the double summit in Accra.

Since Sunday, January 16, 2022, rumors have been circulating on social networks about a possible easing or lifting of sanctions imposed on Mali for more than a week.

Indeed, two days ago, the capture of a publication, which would be from ECOWAS on its Tweeter page, circulates on social networks. In this publication, ECOWAS says it is available to accompany Mali for the return to constitutional order through credible elections within a reasonable and realistic time.

This position seems to be shared by some ECOWAS heads of state, in any case, by the Ivorian head of state, Alassane Dramane Ouattara, whose country is not immune to the consequences of the sanctions that Mali is currently suffering.

In an exchange he gave to media men whose images are available on social networks, after his speech during his trip to **on, he says that they are very unfortunate to have imposed these sanctions and that they have done everything to ensure that the military authorities of Mali organize elections in a timely manner.

He maintains that it is to their defending body that they put these sanctions in place and that their wish would be that these sanctions be lifted as soon as possible. But, for this, he says, we need a credible timetable; an application of this timetable to make elections in a short time. He also argues that it is unacceptable for a military regime to remain in place for a five-year period, as much as to hold elections.

"Security is deteriorating, the situation of the population is as difficult in Mali as in large neighbouring countries such as Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire. We are as unhappy as the Malians," he admits.

"So," he continues, "it is the junta that must take initiatives, restart negotiations, offer us a reasonable duration and the application of this duration with the conditions that will be set by the negotiators to allow the gradual lifting of sanctions. That is our wish."
