Wishful thinking - with each passing day, another debacle weakens my faith in the corporate regulator.

One could be forgiven for thinking these guys are asleep at the wheel when it comes to protecting the interests of shareholders and keeping boards honest and accountable.

Increasingly this mantle is falling to activist institutional shareholders with significant voting power - and the sad reality is if you don't have a few of these on the register, it is very hard to have your voice heard.

Epay is an interesting case because controlling the nature of Simon's shareholding and the game-like bidding war that ensued between Tobikiri and Euronet. Both the process and disclosure need to be investigated - I have an inkling insider trading may have been going on to take advantage of the whipsawing share price throughout this kerfuffle.
