IMO, there is a trend for women to be appointed when things are about to turn sour - or when decisions are going to be rammed through with no proper oversight. This happens also in politics. Everyone knew that the state of Victoria was going to go down the tubes when Joan Kirner was appointed to lead, by the then ALP state govt. It is not that there was anything especially wrong with her. It was the overall situation.
Women are more likely to be marginal to the power structure, or otherwise suited to be the "yes person", or the fall guy.
IMO, there is a trend for women to be appointed when things are...
