And from my favourite talk show Talking Thailand who actually try to hold the government to account. They mention the recent announcement on the sludge and talk positively about value adding in Thailand and the government finally looking to resolve the dispute. One of the presenters says that from the beginning he never believed that the closure had anything to concerns about the environment or the health of the people. He said if you talk to the people who used to be in government, there's two theories for what's happened. The first is the Thais wanted to refine the gold within the country to value add and the second is that a network of Thai inventors "swallow up" the business. While they lament having to give up exploration licences in exchange for the stupid fee, they acknowledge that there has to be some compensation and it's looking like the the problem is going to be resolved amicably.
