If what they say publicly is to be taken as true, they would have accepted lower pay rises in exchange for scrapping this "efficiency framework". When you dig into it shareholders should be quite concerned with the "efficiency framework".
It's a budget version of what Amazon does and opens them up to potential worksafe lawsuits. They should instead be trying to fully automate everything and avoid these problems entirely. But until they can do that, they have to do right by these workers or they will lose shareholders even more money.
It's already 50m lost according to this announcement, so already costing more than a pay increase. Furthermore it only shows workers the power of a successful strike. They have actually emboldened more strikes!
