And if you have concerns about transport infrastructure - there's probably a few ways to pull in the 'lost' revenue (that's a real simplification of the issues I think) - registration fees and road tolls come to mind. Autonomous vehicles may well change how we look at car ownership too so transactional fees may become a useful revenue stream too. Anyway - all of this is off topic.

Yes probably no need to quote you and yes off topic, just joining the topic of EV's verses ICE with most people working the cost benefits of EV's based on fuel but 30% of that saving being taxes I wonder how long it would take for our Pollies to change that. I do agree with you on ways to pull lost revenue which will probably make the cost savings of an electric car nul and void at the end of the day.

Example of lost revenue...based on 1 million ICE vehicles in Australia with a fuel economy of 10 litres/100 km travelling 10 000 km per year and using the current fuel excise 38.6 cents per litre would be $380 million so god forbid with 20 million cars on the road they ever go the full monty at $7.6 billion.
