If anyone on here thinks that retail holders at the time of the proposed AGL split would have seen anything like $12 you're kidding yourselves.
It was a smash and grab.
Keeping AGL intact means we've done very well as shareholders and the continued investment in new supply will at least help contain future electricity wholesale price increases.
Future industrial demand for electricity is going to be massive, partly due to AI/IT data centres. Renewables and batteries are starting to come online to support this and AGL will make good profits supporting this transition by investing in both as well as Kaluza to manage for profitability. The market responding to fill this gap in future supply is what a first world economy does.
Unlike renewables and batteries, no private company is pushing to deliver nuclear supply. It's an expensive political distraction, the only outcome of which is to derail the renewables pipeline and send us back to a 3rd world fossil energy economy relying on coal.
We had a complete mess for 10 years with no new supply and all political parties have been happy to play their games. As both shareholders and citizens we should be telling all politicians to pull their heads in with fantasies and red herrings and continue (or try to accelerate) the transition path we're currently on.
If none of our existing power companies are drawing up any plans for nuclear power what does that tell you?
Nuclear is not competitive. Nuclear is not profitable.
