Alluvial , Diamond mining is less impacted by energy costs compared to hard rock mining from a processing perspective as only uses around 15% of the energy as little if any grinding ie who wants to grind a 30 carot diamond into 1/4 carrot diamonds - maybe the guy in your photo does I guess ?
