This point is often lost on the critics who bang on about the open pit strip ratio and supposed complexities of the orebody.
Retreating the existing ore from the heap leach pads will add significant cash BEFORE they even think about touching the sulphides in the open pit. Other developers can only dream about such an early advantage.
