I was hoping to avoid this but it appears no one else wants to oblige.
Paraphrasing the JORC code, it specifies that a resource represents delineated material that there is an may be minable at some future time given further work.
By contrast reserves is accurately measured material that constitutes or mineable for an economic profit under current conditions including price & technology.
So the major differences are amount of mining and geological work required to prove to a higher standard , and potential future tech improvement and price. Note the uplift in price between price per resource ounce and price per reserve ounce represents the premium of removal of the uncertainly associated with the changes. Further the difference of those values for each mining co represents the markets view of profitability associate with those measures. I.e. A high margin resource oz is worth ore than a minimal margin res oz.
So lets convert you smoke and mirrors to fog in seeing the future. A smart operator prepared to do the work would say well what do we know about the conversion rate of resource oz to res oz for MLX . the answer is you shouldn't use an average because there are multiple mines. On some we have good historical no on others less. I would say the bulk of the potential or is from mines like Gt. Fingal that have proven profitable in the past with lower technology levels and a lower gold price. Further forward selling and hedging and the flexibility of multiple mines and processing plants provides flexibility for getting a larger portion of resources into reserves. Also Warren Hallam intimated to me that both he and Peter Cook(e?) had completed the Masters in Mineral Economics.
Part of which underpins my comment. 'Also MLX management have a tremendous reputation as miners and won't be digging any holes with insufficient plans.' or as Cookie said at the "AGM two years ago. We're miners - we'd mine shit if there was a dollar in it." to guffaws for the mining analysts present.
I hope that partially answers your question and helps bridge some of our difference.
(Now you see why I waited till Sunday to post a more fulsome answer).
