You're confused.
As Jono, from CXU, explains...the epic clash of the political titans over nuclear power, MUST be kept separate from our cause.
Nuclear power is a very hot political issue that can end up falling one way or the other, no one knows! Politics is a brutal bloodsport, and the Labour-Green alliance believe they've trapped Dutton. The fear campaign has only just started...get ready for 12 months of more and more of this. It's gonna get wild, it's gonna get emotional.
There will be national tv interviews, show appearances, public debates, breaking news stories, crass political antics, and lots of gaffes. And there will be big PR mistakes. It's gonna get very hectic and very messy! In the end, the aussie voter may just decide that nuclear is just too risky for them right now. We are a fairly conservative nation, we change slowly. Dutton may win, or he may be left bloodied & bruised heading into the next election.
The point is, we don't want to politically connect the two issues in the general public's mind. Coz, if Nuclear fails, then we will carry some of that stink as well, which would hurt us.
Conversely, if Nuclear wins, then it's a very positive result for us, and we didn't have to risk anything to benefit from the Nuclear win.
Jono's point is that we don't have to say or do anything about the Nuclear debate, with regard to uranium mining. Just let the debate happen, separate from our cause.
Our cause is simple and non-threatening, it's about smart economics, it's about mining in WA (a proud mining state), it's about jobs, and it's about helping our western partners keep their lights on, at a time when Russia and China are moving on African & Central Asian sources previously supplying western nations.
We must never dictate to the WA voter that they must also want Nuclear power, if they like uranium mining for export. That's just stupid.
