It is clear that ASIC encouraged and supported ASX in carrying out its investigation into ISX with no smoking gun and with insufficient evidence of wrongdoing. The discovered documents show that ASIC encouraged Kevin Lewis and promised support that they never supplied. The statement that Luxford said - that he was reluctant to involve ASIC was surely revealing, in that it is clear by the string of conversations that he wanted ASX to do it, but wanted ASIC to look like they weren't involved.

I have no sympathy for Lewis, since the conversations show that he clearly knew he was stepping onto dangerous grounds and "going well beyond ASX's powers. But he clearly was a patsy.
