The Phase 1a/b trial is fully funded from existing cash, along with the cash required to develop RC220 and run the company for the next 2.5 years. What is not funded is the AML trial and the Phase 2 trial, but if the bonus options are taken up then the AML trial is fully funded, and if piggyback options are taken up then the Phase 2 trial is fully funded.

All Phase 1 trials are typically of limited benefit to the patient, but RC220 is different in that we know that even relatively low doses are able to protect the heart somewhat and if the patient happens to have a Bisantrene sensitive cancer, then Bisantrene will also treat the cancer. The RC220 Phase 1a trial is relatively unusual for a Phase 1 trial in that it is likely to be of benefit for the patient from even the lowest doses. This will help with recruitment.

The August plan of treating late stage breast cancer patients faced exactly the same issue at the Phase 1 stage. The major difference is there are no breast cancer patients that just receive doxorubicin in Australia (the planned August study population) - it is not a treatment protocol that is ever used here. Doxorubicin is always given in combination with other drugs, most commonly cyclophosphamide. Race would have had to run the August plan trials overseas somewhere (I am not sure where as we have not found a country where doxorubicin is used on its own in late stage breast cancer). The effective cost of this is on the order of 3-4x times the cost of running a trial in Australia.

The Phase 2 trial is an umbrella trial. This means it made up of a whole lot of sub-trials in each cancer indication. For example, one of the sub-trials might be in breast cancer. This is a specific trial. The advantage of using an umbrella design is you only need one control group for all of the sub-trials. This is not only more efficient, but it make recruitment easier as the patient has a low probability of being allocated to the control group.

Yes the trial designs have been chosen to allow registration. The trials have been specifically designed so there is the possibility of accelerated approval from Phase 2 data. This was not possible with the August plan.

Geez Dr T, for the amount of times you've said look forward not backwards, you sure do bring up the August strategy a fair bit to compare against.

As a shareholder I feel I'm entitled to ask questions of management, and in this instance the CMO. I've read the update a number of times and still have questions, so being told to look at it again from CEO isn't that helpful. (I will do this though).
