One of the things to realise is the company has to cultivate their shareholders just as shareholders should ensure they invest in the companies right for them. So there may be attrition where the SHs decide a company is not for them either because of their strategy/ execution/ mgmt etc.,. SHs also get to vote at AGMs or on resolutions, and provide feedback to BOD/ mgmt that will help decide the BOD and mgmt members/ direction/ and their comp. Its a two-way street. I know this view is idealistic and we are not in an ideal world!
We are in one of those phases which can be polarising and one may decide to get in, stay or leave if there is a lack of alignment between the company's strategy/ execution and the SH's expectations.
