JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for performing lab based research for discovery and development of novel eco-friendly flame retardants
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safely set-up and complete lab scale chemical reactions.Assist with design of experiments to optimize for performance and/or cost.Assist pre-production process development, performing synthesis in a kilo-scale laboratory under the direction of senior management.Assist sales and plant personnel with technical support issuesPerform quality control testing as needed on product samples generated on laboratory scale, kilo-scale, or production scale at toll manufacturing partnersMaintain clean, safe, and organized work areaMaintaining documents, reports and files with regard to testing, improving of previous products, researching in order to develop new products.Confer with colleagues and leadership, conduct analyses of research projects, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests and change test methods as necessary.

REQUIRED and PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSSkills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Ability to communicate with employees in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
Ability to prioritize workloads
Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
Ability to maintain accurate records
Ability to work independently
Ability to operate Microsoft Office Suite and bar coding equipment
Ability to safely handle hazardous materials
Ability to lift 25 lbs
Related Work Experience
Synthesis related research/production 2 years
Experience with either flame retardants or materials science is preferred
Experience with anhydrous and/or air-free reactions is highly preferred
Proficiency with NMR, FT-IR, as well as common laboratory equipment and procedures is required
Education
Bachelor’s degree in the sciences is required; Chemistry degree highly preferred.
