I would generally agree with you that it may not be the norm. However, I have gone from having zero hand sanitizer products in my house to now using it regularly. My relos and in laws all use it.

I laughed at my friends when they bought hand sanitizer on a bush walk but now use it every time I go out or after a work meeting.

If a cure and production is still potentially 12-18 months away then hand sanitizers sales will be popularized worldwide at a very high demand for quite a while. The elderly will continue to remain vulnerable.

Interestingly, today's report on stats coming out of France and Italy are showing that Millenials / Gen Y are also getting severely sick from CV19. However, it is still a little early to tell what the impact is or the reasons why.
