The Role:
The Field Survey/Data Processing Technician is responsible for data collection and processing incoming data associated with the West Palm Beach Storm Hardening Project, as well as all other clients, while working closely with Survey Lead and Supervisor. This position will require occasional travel to work sites. A vehicle will be provided for all required travel. A clean driving record is mandatory. This Technician will assist in all aspects of data processing to include LiDAR, condition assessments, mission/flight planning, QA/QC, field survey and other tasks delegated by Supervisor and Team Lead as needed.

The Essentials:
• Follows the BHI safety procedures whether in the office or in the field including pre-job briefs, vehicle inspections, and all required FAA/FPL flight guidelines are followed/performed as well as upholds BHI guidelines.
• Assist Survey Supervisor in reviewing and creating Condition Assessment reports utilizing all captured RGB and thermographic images to standard.
• Assist the Survey Supervisor and Survey Lead in performing Quality Assurance checks on all survey data to include LiDAR, thermography, RGB and ground survey data.
• Assist Survey Lead in processing LiDAR data and upload to Pointerra platform/BHI Analytics
• Conduct Ground Survey duties as needed
• Act as a Visual Observer in Unmanned Aerial flight missions to include autonomous and manual flight as needed.
• Other duties as assigned

T&D Storm Hardening

[ BHI Energy was contracted to support the Storm Hardening Project for a large U.S. power utility by performing field engineering, distribution engineering and computer-based analysis and design functions to strengthen and enhance (i.e., harden) the electrical grid via its feeder system with supporting poles, conductors and equipment. Initial work included review, verification and cross-checking of the utility GIS system and feeder mapping data.

Working closely with the client, BHI established “lessons learned”, an enhanced software training program and a project plan which greatly reduced rework. Through accurate field assessment and engineering knowledge, the BHI team was able to update the client’s GIS system with accurate data, and designed the utility grid using precise hardening standards. Over the course of this project, BHI expected to evaluate, upgrade and/or replace over 1 million total poles within the client’s service territories, as well as millions more pieces of equipment that reside on the poles. ]

[ BHI has spent 6 years working with Florida Power & Light to provide Distribution design services in South Florida as part of its storm hardening capital project. The team of 100 technicians is composed of Distribution overhead line and underground designers, environmental and municipal permitting specialists, field supervisors, QA/QC specialists, mapping technicians, field surveyors, project control technicians and project managers. The project has been focused on designing OH/UG feeders and laterals throughout FP&L service areas. ]
