I learnt about LBT in 2011 when the late Mike Hirshorn joined LBT's board, 10 months before his unfortunate passing (he had been fighting cancer)... back then APAS was just a concept as was woundvue in 2014, Previ, our first product was sold in 2007 to bioMérieux who used it to revolutionise their core business, with their market cap expanding by $6 billion+ in that time (Previ was on their homepage for most of that time)
LBT is a serial innovator built by talented scientists and engineers, there is so much history that you would think it was managed and naturally belonged with the ASX300 leaders.
So who is Mike?

For those who followed Mike, in short he is a true hero... professionally he is the founder/CEO of Cochlear and as well as the founding director of Resmed
Why did he join LBT?
I believe he saw the same potential for LBT, and his legacy to management - was to infuse courage in chasing a an innovative vision, and to lead the world with APAS just as Cochlear & Resmed did - don't lose control of the innovation, don't take the early money... now we have two of the most complexly German/Swiss engineered APAS AI automated products - ready to sell.
Just as Mike/Australia led the world in bionic hearing and respiratory sleep technology - Australia will now lead the world in Healthcare Artificial Intelligence and Automation.
As an illustration, taking an APAS infectious diseases use case scenario - let's call - Accelerating the critical path to treatment - in acute hospital care settings, a few minutes can save a life (APAS removes systematic bottle necks via AI 24/7 operations - 6 hours improvement to treatment pathways) .... Giving countries and cities who don't have labs with highly trained staff to diagnose - the same capabilities as tier 1 hospital labs (through APAS) to simply determine the correct treatment/drugs/antibiotics to give, saves lives and societies as a whole....
I guess for now we should feel blessed we have a Cochlear groomed and mentored General Manager, with proven experience, leading LBT's vision... and in some way - carrying the torch and paying tribute to Mike's vision of LBT's potential contribution to leading the world through a new FDA category of automated medical devices with artificial intelligence capabilities... I am excited for the healthcare industry
