    Probably something in the contract around warranty, tech support and upgrading software. I realise it's probably more complicated, but most companies will not support a product if the software upgrades have not been kept up. And you can't leapfrog releases, you have to do each one in turn.

    Not disputing what you say. Just suggesting there may be a good reason to buy the upgrades. Perhaps the yearly cost is constraining sales? Hence my question earlier "Is the money in the software?"
