The USA has approx 50 to 60k in hospital at any time, of that not that many are in ICU. A lot of these infections are in the young and healthy, very few develop serious symptoms. If you could read the full article you would see that initially they thought that respirators were critical but as they have learnt to treat the virus they have changed tact and are using them as a last resort due to the side effects. Talk to any doctor with knowledge of respirators and they will tell you how damaging they can be to your health.
