This country is desperate for more gas, and that demand is only going to increase with increased usage of unreliable power generators like wind and solar. The evidence for this in Europe is overwhelming.
When wind and solar producers inevitably stop working the immediate shortfall can be filled with traditional grid stabilisation for a few seconds, battery storage can fill this gap for a few minutes, but coal fired generation can take hours to come on line - IF enough capacity is available.
As far as I am aware the only technologies that can fill the gap between "minutes" and "hours" are gas fired generators, and hydroelectric.
