Within mining operations there is usually some sort of optimisation process. If faced with a fixed capacity that can be toll processed, the simple optimisation answer is to send higher grade material for toll processing first. In the case of the Laterite, the minimal slope of the pit wall created from mining means you could independently cherry-pick higher grade areas of laterite to mine. The landscape would start to look like lots of small versions of the pit below. Its a bit ugly, but it would allow higher near-term profits that would help capitalise TG6 for larger mining ventures like a big cut-back at Diemen or Tasman.

The profitability would depend on grade and distance to the toll operator. The further away they are, the higher the grade you would need to mine for it to be profitable.
