yep I prefer the single stock approach aka "the Montgomery invest in a business" approach (regardless of the economy) I'll make my own decisions thanks very much in the weight of cash in my portfolio. I do this on the "macro" (in order to try prepare for any buying opportunity in further market downturns) but other than that I agree the "macro" should have very little influence on an investors individual stock picking... funnily enough everytime I do this (eg recent gold stocks) I seem to get the timing wrong..though time will tell NA
