I'm not sure how many of you invest based on input from the financial press, but if you based your investment decisions on their opinions (see below) you'd be running a mile from MFG. However, when "opinions" like these are published it generally is a signal (for me) to start buying as they have already missed the bus (so to speak).
2024 GMT - Of the 10 worst-performing stocks on the ASX 200 last year, Atlas Funds Management is touting Orica and Lendlease as candidates for a strong 2022 recovery. Orica because the outlook for coal looks robust, particularly in view of Indonesia banning exports, and Lendlease partly because it's a more palatable acquisition target since selling its engineering business. A so-called 'Dogs of the Dow' investing strategy didn't produce the hoped-for ASX outperformance last year or in 2020 but has worked in six of the last 10 years, Atlas says. It doesn't seem optimistic for Magellan Financial or a2 Milk--last year's two worst performers--as Magellan's problems look set to intensify and a2 faces China market challenges outside its control.
