If you read the first paragraph of the article, the shares were issued in lieu of performance grants from their old firms to entice them across to barren joey.
Investment Bankers love performance bonuses and would hate having had them effectively reduced by almost 60% and not able to sell them to cut losses.
Getting the current level of dividends will take 15+ years to return the current loss of capital. This assumes dividends stay at $2 per share, per annum. Could take 30 years assuming a decline of dividend toward $1.
