There are two types of big shareholders - the long term and the short term. It is the short term ones that are selling. Also note that the sellers may not necessarily belong to the top 20 holders. Even the bots with a 500 shares can move the market. Imagine what a 10,000 or 20,000 units sell order can do.

Four months ago, market conditions were very different. Sentiments were still good or optimistic and there is no reason for the speculators to unload this counter. Everybody was hoping this is going to be another Blackmore.

However since Jan, things started to crack. Oil price plunged, China stock market crashed and stock markets worldwide started to slide. Big speculators or traders become very nervous. Their expected rally did not pan out. Big speculators have certain levels to watch. It's a business to them and once a critical level cracked, they are forced to sell either to protect profits or to cut their losses early.

So it became a down spiral, the more they sell, the more sell levels get triggered. Notice how when the share drop below certain support, the selling suddenly accelerates. Like when $2.00 cracked, it suddenly plunged to $1.75. That's when you have stop loss order going through and the brokers need to sell at any price.

Once the sell orders are filled, the market will suddenly gap up again. This is typical of a counter will thin liquidity.
