mMy Speculation is: that Charged gets $3mil worth of Bikes (so essentially, purchasing equity with inventory), they use these bikes to penetrate the market with low prices to achieve brand awareness and word-of-mouth happening with how great the bikes are. So after 3years and $3mil worth of bikes, they have the customer base established and no longer need discounted bikes.
A positive development, great to see VMT putting out a specific announcement about it.
